Is it true the atolls will disapear?

Don't write your thesis statement first. Do the research, learn the answer (or at least, the best answer you can get) and then use that as your thesis.

Your thesis will be something along the lines of "The atolls will disappear", "The atolls will not disappear", or "If we do not do X, Y and Z, the atolls may disappear."

money aside, is it worth getting a phd for learning sake and not because i want a research or teaching career?

This is just an idea I've been having lately. i'd appreciate any thoughts. again, please answer this ignoring the money factor for a now.

i personally think that a lot of people who get phd's over do their time in school and then when they get out they kind of flouder because real life is so different from acadamia and they have spent sooo long in academia, it starts seeming like a way to avoid startng your life. there is so much to learn on the outside too. i think getting a masters is great, but phd, it's a turn off to me, but if you want to go for it, there are much worse ways to spend your time.
